Text Box: New Year Greetings Shipmates,
With 2006 and our very successful Corpus reunion already in the ship’s log,  I find myself getting excited all over again about our 2008 meeting in Charleston.  I realize our next gathering is still a long way off, but as we grow older the days, months, and years seem to pass more quickly, and before we know it, we will be getting ready to meet in Charleston.  Don’t miss your reunion chairperson, Everett Ward’s great article entitled “A Little About Charleston” regarding the exciting sights & sounds we will enjoy.
Shawn and I took a couple of days off from work and school over the holidays to visit the old home of the Whetstone, San Diego.  Jim Dunn’s hometown is such a beautiful place!  We visited several ships, now museums, along the harbor, and I found myself longing for those days on the “Stone”; which would, of course, turn back the clock of time and I could experience “if I only knew then, what I know now…”  Wouldn’t that be great!  However, we do have the wonderful opportunity of renewing our many friendships established over 40+ years ago thanks to our Association.
As we move full steam ahead into 2007, let us resolve to keep those friendships close and continue to build new ones.  Take time to enjoy life and not let the constraints of the daily grind strip away our resolve to stay connected.  Speaking of staying in touch, let me remind you that we have a wonderful website thanks to the support of Jim Dunn and the awesome work done by David Vydra, our Webmaster.  Take a look, the site is constantly being updated.  For those of you that do not have access to the Internet, most local libraries have free access to PC’s and plenty of help available.  Go to: www.usswhetstone.net
Remember, should you be in need or just have a question/comment about your Association, please feel free to contact me or any of your officers at any time… well not at “0 dark thirty”!  J
Shawn and I wish you all a healthy and prosperous new year and I look forward to chatting with you again next quarter.

Text Box: Tom and Joyce McQuillen have located another shipmate!  Tom and Joyce are supportive of the Association and have assisted with the reunions since the first reunion in Las Vegas in 1996.  They are always looking for shipmates of Tom as they travel throughout the USA.  Last year on their way to Florida, they located a shipmate Tom served with that he was sure lived in Georgia.  After some searching, they found FN Roy E Page - 1964-68.  This year, after attending the Corpus Christi reunion, Tom and Joyce, along with shipmate Russ McNitt and wife, Kathy, determined to find another shipmate of Tom and Russ, David White.  They made numerous calls and before they left Texas, they had not only located David but had visited with David and wife, Patricia, and shared a wonderful evening renewing their friendship from their years on the “Stone.”  Just in case some of you remember David, we wanted to share this picture we received from Tom and Joyce.  We appreciate the effort Tom and Joyce put into searching for shipmates and we give our special thanks to the McQuillens and the McNitts for their extra effort in locating another shipmate.
