Ahoy Shipmates!
Just 8 months until the Seattle reunion. September will be here before we know it. I wish, at times, that we could have a reunion each year, but it is a lot of work and since some of us still have jobs, it would be asking a great deal for people to give up their vacation time each year. However, none of us are getting any younger and the reunion is the only opportunity that many of us have of seeing shipmates from near and far. The friendships I have made through the Association mean so much to me and I am thankful for the opportunity to meet some of the world's best people.
Personally, I am looking forward to visiting the Seattle area. I have always wanted to go to Northwest. The Whetstone was there before and after I was aboard and I always thought I had missed something. The Seattle area is expensive to visit; however, we believe that the Doubletree Hotel at Sea-Tac Airport has given us a very good rate. We recognize that the hotel is some miles from downtown Seattle, but with the many tours, hotel shuttles, etc. that are available, we still should have an opportunity to get an overview of the area. Many of the trips: Mt. Rainier, Victoria, and St. Helens, are simply too long of days, but we believe we have come up with some good activities. See page 11 with all the reunion information. Please start making your hotel reservations. We are counting on the 100+ shipmates in the area to participate in this reunion, along with the many other shipmates throughout the country to help make this the best reunion yet.
Due to the large amount of spam that we receive with our mgoble@mindspring address, we have had to use a spam blocker. Unfortunately, this does not allow any e-mail other than what addresses are in our mailbox. When you e-mail us at make sure you put USS Whetstone in the subject line so we will know it is related to the Association.
I look forward to seeing you in Seattle!
