Text Box: Seattle, Washington
Our 2004 reunion was held in Seattle, Washington, September 8 - 11.  Attractions included tours of the city, Bremerton Navy yard (from a tour boat) and a boat tour of the bay..  The Whetstone was no stranger to Seattle thanks to Todd shipyard.  I enjoyed a visit to the city in 1962 when I got to see the world’s fair.  I enjoyed my trip in 2004 just as much.
At Bremerton Navy yard we got to see quite a few ships in mothballs.   One ship there was the USS Constellation, a carrier that a friend of mine is a plank owner.  How could it be mothballed already?  Well, gee, it was 46 years ago!
We also enjoyed a tour of the destroyer, Turner Joy DD-951.  It was said this ship had the distinction of firing the FIRST and LAST shot of the Vietnam war.  I particularly enjoyed the open self-guided tour that allowed you to visit the boiler room and engine rooms.
