Text Box: As most of you are aware, Marvin Watson, our Chaplain, and his wife, Jane, are involved with “Prison Ministry.”  A shipmate, Steve Lehi, called Marvin about an article, “They Were Soldiers” that appeared in Jubilee (a magazine of prison fellowship) with regard to the number of veterans incarcerated in our prisons, the various reasons for this and programs communities and churches have developed to reach the veterans in our prison system.

Marvin contacted David Carlson, editor of Jubilee to obtain permission for reprinting the article in our newsletter.  Permission was granted, however, only if we printed the article in full without editing or alteration.  As the article is lengthy and we are limited on space, this is not a feasible option.

The article is very interesting and gives one a perspective of our prison system and what veterans are doing there and how they are changing their lives during their incarceration time.

Should anyone like to read the article, please contact Kay Goble at 6200 Emerald Pines Circle, Fort Myers, Florida 33912 or (239) 768-1449 or membership@usswhetstone.net and a copy will be forwarded to you.  In the event you have an interest in receiving the magazine, please contact www.prisonfellowship.org which will provide the needed contact information.

We thank Marvin for serving as our Chaplain.  He is always available for any shipmate or family member.  If you have a need, whether it is a health issue, a personal issue or you just need someone to talk with you, give Marvin a call.  He and Jane are willing to help.

Contact information for Marvin is:

Text Box: CHILDREN AND THE CHURCH

A little boy was attending his first wedding.  After the service, his cousin asked him, “How many women can a man marry?”

“Sixteen,” the boy responded.  His cousin was amazed that he had an answer so quickly.  “How do you know that?”  “Easy,” the little boy said.

“All you have to do is add it up, like the Bishop said, 4 better, 4 worse, 4 richer, 4 poorer.”
