Again, thank you to all shipmates that have sent dues and donations to the Association. Without your support, it would be impossible to publish "The Rolling Stone", maintain the Website, find lost shipmates and have our reunions. Dues are $20.00 a year, are tax deductible, and are strictly voluntary. All dues are applied to the year they are received unless designated otherwise. We recognize that not all are able to support the Association, but we welcome support from whomever is able. Dues received to date for 2003 are listed below. An asterisk designates dues paid for additional year(s). If anyone has paid and your name is not listed, please accept our apology. Please contact Kay Goble at 6200 Emerald Pines Cir, Ft. Myers, FL 33912, (239)768-1449, or e-mail: president@usswhetstone.net.
Please use this list as your receipt.

Your President

Ahoy Shipmates,

Here it is mid-October and the newsletter is just getting out to you. We have been waiting for confirmation from the hotel in Seattle so we could let you know dates, etc.   We are looking forward to great reunion! There is a lot to see in the Seattle area and we are adding an extra day to allow more free time for shipmates to get together and visit. We would appreicate you contacting us if you are planning on attending the reunion which will enable us to better plan at the hotel and for tours, etc. Due to our hotel contract, we would like to have an idea of how many rooms will be used at the hotel property.   We believe we have done our "homework" for this reunion . We have been working with a travel agent, as well as the Seattle Visitors Convention, to obtain the assistance we need to contract the best hotel for the price. Several hotels have sent proposals and we have decided on the Doubletree Hotel at the SeaTac Airport. We recognize the airport area is this hotel is not in downtown Seattle but feel that since we use bus tours, the proximity of the hotel to the airport and the amenities at the hotel, that we have chosen well. Jim Dunn has graciously contacted references from groups using the Doubletree property for their reunion and has received a very positive response. Now it is up to you to help make this the best reunion we have ever had! Details of the reunion can be found on page 11 of the newsletter.

Additionally, I want to emphasize how important the reunions are by giving us an opportunity to see one another again and visit. Many that have attended past reunions are no longer with us and it gives me pleasure to know that I got to meet them and share some time with men I may never have met if not for the Association. So I ask you to plan to join us September 8 thru September 11, 2004 at the Doubletree Hotel at SeaTac Airport. You will never regret the decision to attend.

We have had a some trouble with our computer (virus, upgrades, etc.) for the last 90 days and wish to apologize if anyone has tried to contact us and we have not responded. Due to the large amount of spam that we are receiving , we have added a spamblocker. Therefore, if you send us an e-mail please put USS Whetstone in the subject line so we will allow your address to be added to our mailbox. I dislike the system, but I dislike 300 to 400 spam a day more. Until we meet again……
