Text Box: My husband, Chaplain Marvin Watson RM-3 (1960-1963) asked me to write the Chaplain's corner for this newsletter.  We just celebrated our 44th wedding anniversary and he's still telling me what to do.  But, I am truly honored to write these lines.

It's a beautiful day in Nebraska.  The sun is out and 60 degrees.  Quite a change from last week at 90 degrees.  Nebraska weather is never boring; just come visit us sometime and you'll find out.

I hesitate to read a newspaper or listen to the news this past month.  Have you ever heard so many negative comments from the news media?!!  The United States definitely needs all our support and prayers right now.  We never know everything that is going on but I do know we must all bond together and pray for our service men and women in the military.  They sacrifice their lives for our freedom and we need to let them know they are appreciated.

We are really excited about the upcoming reunion in Seattle in September.  We have our airline tickets and I believe Marv has his bag packed already.  He still doesn't fit into his Navy uniform, but if I put him in a shrink bag?!!  I believe it will be a joyous time for everyone to fellowship and renew friendships and make new ones as well.  We thank Marion and Kay for all their work.  You are both appreciated!

The reunion brings back many memories of the past, some good and some bad.  I remember being very young, just out of high school, and heading out to San Diego to be wed.  The many trips back and forth to Nebraska when the Whetstone headed over seas; having my husband miles across the ocean while giving birth to our first child; and eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for weeks; and other things the wives can share with each other.  We all remember times like those.  I was pretty naive at that time, and I believed I had to do it all on my own.  If I ever needed help, I was too proud to ask.  As I look back today, I know God was preparing me and waiting for me to call upon Him.  I appreciate those experiences and how the Lord helped me grow and mature and become a responsible person. I have a deeper appreciation to our military today.
Text Box: We can be proud of our service to God and our country.  I pray we all renew our relationship with the Lord and thank him for his grace and mercy.

Everyone on the Whetstone is family.  Even though I don't know all of you personally, if I can ever be of help to any of you, maybe to talk or pray, do not hesitate to get in touch with me.  You are all a part of God's family.  Colossians 3:15--Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.  And be thankful!  Blessings from Jane Watson

Text Box: NAVY COMMISSARY

A pert little lady went to the Navy Commissary store to do some shopping.  She is bewildered over the large selection of toilet paper.  “Pardon me, sir,” she says to the store manager, “but can you explain the difference in all these toilet papers?”  “Well,” he replies, pointing out the most expensive brand, “this is as soft as a baby’s kiss.  It’s $1.50 per roll.”  He grabs another and says, “This is nice and soft as a bunny, strong yet gentle, and it’s $1.25 a roll.”  He grabs another and says, “This is soft as a woman’s touch and smooth like skin, and it’s $1.00.”  He finally arrives at the bottom shelf and tells her, “This toilet paper in a plain wrapper has no name, I don’t know about it, but it sells at $.20 per roll.  The little lady, asks the store manager for a couple of rolls and leaves the store.

A couple weeks later, she’s back at the commissary store and seeks out the manager.  She tells him” Hey!, I’ve got a name for your plain wrapper toilet paper.”  Call it CPO paper.  “Why,” he asks.  “Because it’s just like the Chiefs in the Navy, SLICK, TOUGH, AND IT DOESN’T TAKE CRAP OFF ANY ASSHOLE!”
