Greetings from
Your President

and independence that we have in this great Country.

Jane and I have been so blessed the past four days as we were special guests at the Correctional Peace Officers Annual Memorial Service in Tampa.  Of the 32,000 correctional officers assaulted last year I was one of six that was honored at this event as being a survivor of an attack by four inmates with knives, being tied up and gagged for several hours. I am very thankful to God for being alive and for His protection on my life during this ordeal.

On Sunday our dear friends Marion and Kay Goble, of the Whetstone Association, drove the 130 miles up to Tampa from Fort Myers to spend the day with us before we boarded our jet to fly out this evening.  We had a wonderful time together and talked about our upcoming reunion for the Whetstone in Hampton, Virginia.  We all look forward to seeing our friends we have made in the Association and making new friends at this reunion.  We talked about some of our personal financial struggles we are having and how fortunate we are to have good friends, which brings joy and peace in our lives, that a large bank account can't.   It was a blessed day of just sharing love and friendship with each other.

May God give you peace in your life with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, by being grateful for living in American and for good friends and family.  I hope to see you all at our reunion August 22-24th at the Chamberlin Hotel in Hampton, Virginia.

Ahoy Shipmates,

Here it is just a little over 7 weeks until the reunion.  We are busy trying to get all things ready in hope that this will be the best and most remembered reunion.

I would like to address several issues:  (1) When calling and making reservations, you should tell them that you are with the Wheststone Association to assure yourself of the $84.00 rate (Please call and confirm (800) 582-8975).  We receive lists of those attending and some that we are aware of are not listed; (2)  We need you to make reservations for events you plan to attend and have them paid for by
July 15.  If you are planning on attending and haven't paid by July 15, please notify us immediately with events you are attending and number of people by phone (239/768-1449), e-mail (mgoble@mindspring.com) or mail (6200 Emerald Pines Circle, Ft Myers, FL 33912) as we must give numbers to the hotel.  We must give hotel and tour group accurate numbers by July 15; (3)  We are trying something different at this reunion by having a video taped which will be available on VCR and/or DVD.  I have reviewed the format the company uses and feel it will be a great asset.  If you are attending the reunion, it is important that you bring a photo of yourself when you were on the ship as a segment on the video will be "Then and Now;" There will also be segments from an 8 mm film that was done aboard the "Stone" included in the video; (4) We need to address the issue of people moving and not informing us of change of address.  Each newsletter mailing, we receive approximately 10--15 back (which we have to pay for since we do a bulk mailing).  As we do bulk 3rd Class mailing, the newsletters do not  get forwarded as 1st Class mail does.  It becomes very frustrating keeping the database up-to-date when so much effort is put into locating shipmates; (5) In this newsletter, we are including the entire muster list of located shipmates.  Please note only rate, years aboard, name, city and state are listed.  If you wish to contact someone, you will need to get in touch with me by either phone, e-mail or snail mail as we never give out phone numbers and street addresses without permission from the located shipmate; (6) Please come prepared to attend the business meeting and select the next reunion site.

I look forward to seeing you all in Hampton, VA and hope that we will have a great attendance and will spend many hours remembering times gone by.  Until August, fair winds and smooth sailing.

I am writing this article on a 757 at 26, 000 feet flying from Tampa, Florida to St. Louis and on to Lincoln, Nebraska.  It is such a blessing to look out at God's creation from up here and realize how fortunate we are to live in these United States of America and celebrate the freedom
