Shipmates
Text Box: Greetings from
Your President
Text Box: Again, thank you to all shipmates that have sent dues and donations to the Association.  Without your support, it would be impossible to publish “The Rolling Stone”, maintain the Website, find lost shipmates and have our reunions.  Dues are $20.00 a year, are tax deductible, and are strictly voluntary.  All dues are applied to the year they are received unless designated otherwise.  We recognize that not all are able to support the Association, but we welcome support from whomever is able.  Dues received to date for 2004 are listed below.  An asterisk designates dues paid for additional year(s).  If anyone has paid and your name is not listed, please accept our apology.  Please contact Kay Goble at 6200 Emerald Pines Cir, Ft. Myers, FL 33912, (239)768-1449, or e-mail: president@usswhetstone.net.
Please use this list as your receipt.

Ahoy Shipmates!       Reunion time is almost here...only a little over 5 months until we meet once again in Seattle.  We apologize for the delay in getting the final prices for tours, etc. out, but we finally have everything in place.  We trust we have put together a reunion that all will find something they can enjoy.   As always, our hospitality room will be available throughout the reunion.  We have tried set this reunion up with more free time so shipmates can have more time together to trade sea stories.  Our format of paying for tours and meals before you arrive allows us to meet our obligations with regard to deposits, etc.  In the past this has worked very well, thereby, allowing you to have everything but rooms paid for prior to the reunion.  We recognize the trips and meals are a little more expensive than in the past, however , all hotel meals and trips include gratuity and sales tax (29.3%) which moves the prices upward.  Nevertheless, we believe the reunion experience is indeed a rewarding time.  We are looking forward to large group and I would like to ask each of you to take the time to contact your local newspapers to promote our reunion.  Any help you give will be appreciated.  We know there are many within driving range of the reunion site and want to advise that the hotel has given free parking to our attendees.   Also, if you live in the area and plan to drop by the reunion, please let us know you are attending, as we must pay for all functions and have number of attendees prior to the reunion.  Again, remember, that we only meet every two years and the reunion may be the only opportunity you ever get to renew friendships with men you served with.  Please attend.  I look forward to seeing you.   We trust you will have a rewarding experience and something to remember!!

Text Box: We’re all heading in this direction!!

As a senior citizen was driving down the freeway, his car phone rang.  Answering, he heard his wife’s voice urgently warning him, “Herman, I just heard on the news that there’s a car going the wrong way on Interstate 77.  Please be careful!”  “Hell,” said Herman, “It’s not just one car.  It’s hundreds of them!”

Three retirees, each with a hearing loss, were playing golf one fine March day.  One remarked to the other, “Windy, isn’t it?”  “No,” the second replied, “it’s Thursday.”  And the third man chimed in, “So am I.  Let’s have a beer.”
